Maria A. Alexander is a dedicated mental health professional with a wealth of experience spanning various domains including community outreach, public relations, operations, project management, administration, process improvement, and training and development.
Since 2020, Maria has been serving as a Mental Health First Aid Instructor at Metropolitan Human Services District, where she plays a pivotal role in educating individuals on mental health awareness and first aid techniques. In addition to her instructional role, Maria serves as a Program Manager/Criminal Justice Liaison, a position she has held since 2014. In this capacity, Maria is responsible for implementing and ensuring daily compliance with policies and procedures related to criminal justice and reentry programs. She has also been instrumental in developing current and long-range policies and procedures for program administration, fostering person-centered care through collaborative partnerships.
Previously, Maria held the position of Assistant Director at the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, where she spearheaded strategic goals and objectives focused on operational management. Her responsibilities included overseeing the development, design, operations, and enhancement of systems delivering the Sheriff’s Reentry program.
Maria's commitment to community service extends to her prior roles at organizations such as ACORN, Gulf Coast Construction Career Center, and Ombudsman in New Orleans, where she provided vital support to the community. Her dedication to serving the most vulnerable dates back to her role at HOPE Worldwide Tri-State in New York, where she began her career in 1994.
Maria earned her Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from Nyack College, Nyack, NY.
With a profound passion for public service and a proven track record in program management and community outreach, Maria A. Alexander continues to make a significant impact in her field, embodying qualities of dedication, leadership, and integrity.
