Ece Tek, MD is a board-certified addiction and geriatric psychiatrist who was trained at University of Maryland / Sheppard Pratt Psychiatry Residency where she was a chief resident. She then completed Dartmouth Geriatric and Yale Addiction Psychiatry Fellowships. She has served as a physician, educator, and administrator in the community settings at every level of mental health and substance use treatment, ranging from inpatient detoxification, outpatient substance use, methadone, buprenorphine, dual diagnosis and partial hospitalization programs. As an addiction and geriatric psychiatrist, Dr.Tek brings the expertise of these specialties together to face the challenge of complex mental, addiction and neurocognitive conditions that face patients with severe mental illness. Understanding the complex medical conditions that impact psychiatric disabilities, she worked successfully to fully integrate behavioral health services with medical and dental to improve outcomes for this high-acuity complex patient population.
With the scholarship from Dartmouth Medical School, she was able to attend Master of Healthcare Delivery System Courses at Tuck Business School. She is specialized in low-income urban populations and the social determinants of health that influence the lives of people seeking clinical services. Under her tenure, Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center’s addiction services have expanded significantly within an integrated care model. Working to bring evidence-based practices into the public health environment, she has brought a holistic approach such as implementation of acupuncture to the care of the patients with PTSD, chronic pain and substance use.
She teaches mental health and substance use services at Yale Medical School and her efforts in the mentoring of Yale medical students was recognized in being awarded Teacher of the Year from the American Psychiatric Association.
