Mental Health Professional
School District of Palm Beach County
Boca Raton, Florida
Alisa Fernandez believes that schools serve a vital role in ensuring the mental health of our children. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Florida Atlantic University in 1999 and her Masters of Social Work from Barry University in 2001. She has been an LCSW since 2010.
Alisa’s career has ranged from counseling differently-abled young adults in residential settings to three years as a school social worker in an elementary school in Boca Raton, FL. Her work in that setting coincided with COVID which was especially challenging for her kindergarten through fifth grade students. She has also worked with children and adults as a private practitioner. After one year as a full-time YMHFA Instructor, Alisa has taken those skills to her current position as a Mental Health Professional working on the Crisis Assessment Prevention Education (CAPE) Support Services Team. She is applying the lessons of Mental Health First Aid to students facing challenges on a daily basis. Alisa believes that educators and other members of our school communities have a responsibility to provide tools for our children to feel good about themselves and their place in the world as they move forward in life. This process begins with wellness, particularly mental health. She feels extremely good about her place in the world as an advocate and counselor for our next generation.
