Alicia Freeman is the Mental Health First Aid Coordinator at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has helped to establish a campus-based MHFA Training program that is serving the community and continues to expand offerings to include Youth/teen across the state. Alicia is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist – Associate who owns and operates Ascend Counseling, PLLC part-time providing counseling, coaching, and consulting services.
She is a member of the Waccamaw Siouan Tribe, a state-recognized tribe in North Carolina. She values connectedness, reciprocity, and integrity. Alicia is an advocate for social change and destigmatizing mental health in historically marginalized communities. Her research focus areas are racial trauma and resilience. Alicia enjoys engaging in tennis, volleyball, yoga, and crafting. She considers friends extended family and loves spending quality time with her dog Cayden.
