Coordinator of LGBTQ+ Initiatives
Services for the UnderServed
New York, New York
Anita Das (she/they) has worked as an educator, counselor, and facilitator across the globe. As such, she has always been interested in exploring the intersectionality of identity, particularly as it relates to race, nationality, gender, and sexuality, and finding ways to break down barriers for historically marginalized communities. Currently, Anita is the LGBTQ+ Initiatives Coordinator with Services for the UnderServed (S:US), where she helps support LGBTQ+ staff and people served by the S:US’s programs through a range of new projects from training to policies and procedures and more. In the past, Anita has worked as a racial literacy trainer, a mindfulness facilitator, a school counselor, and an LGBTQ+ health specialist. Through her work as an LGBTQ+ health specialist at the Montrose Center in Houston, TX, she worked with the LGBTQ+ population to help address health disparities for historically underserved populations, provide healthcare literacy and health education, and to reduce barriers to accessing healthcare. In graduate school, she researched how identity-based stressors affect people’s health and wellbeing and helped with the development of a racial literacy and gender conscious curriculum. Through all of her work, she highlights the importance of mental health and wellness, trauma-informed care, and culturally informed practices, and she is committed to educating and empowering people to live healthier and happier lives. Anita holds an M.S.Ed. and an M.Phil.Ed. in counseling from the University of Pennsylvania and has also completed two 200-hour yoga teacher trainings.
