Pamela Acosta, BHCS, is the Senior Manager of the Bernalillo County Behavioral Health Initiative (BHI) in Albuquerque, NM. With 27 years of experience in behavioral health, human & community services, and criminal justice, she brings a wealth of expertise to her role. Throughout her career, she has focused on areas such as psycho-social rehabilitation, case management, crisis services, and jail reentry services. Pamela has worked for Bernalillo County for over 11 years, where she has managed various departments including the Inmate Benefits and Social Services Department at the Metropolitan Detention Center and the Bernalillo County Resource Reentry Center. She played a crucial role in streamlining Medicaid enrollment within the jail system and establishing transition planning and reentry services in Bernalillo County. Her dedication to her field is evident through her involvement as a committee member of the following: Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) Diversion and Reentry Subcommittee, High Frequency Utilizer Work Group, Data and Technology Subcommittee, and Law Enforcement Subcommittee, Behavioral Health Working Group, and as a Stepping Up Innovator County representative. Pamela is familiar to NATCON as a past poster presenter: Jail Booking Summary as a Form of ID (NATCON ’22 -Washington, D.C.). Currently, Pamela oversees the Bernalillo County Behavioral Health Initiatives (BHI) which uses New Mexico gross receipts tax to fund and manage over 66 contracts with 45 community behavioral health providers and establishing a continuum of care and access to services for all walks of life.
