Michael L. Hess, PhD is Statistical Analyst for Bernalillo County’s Department of Behavioral Health Services, where he manages in-depth examination and interpretation of data across the Department’s many behavioral health programs, implements new ways of gathering data from BHI programs and the department’s community partners, and oversees data and records management under the supervision of the Behavioral Health Administrator.
Prior to his current position, Michael served as student advisor to medical students at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, which included assisting students with data gathering, management and statistical analysis on their mandatory research projects. Since arriving in New Mexico in 2004, Michael has mentored two high school students at Albuquerque’s South Valley Academy, and a college student currently finishing a Masters Degree in Education at Harvard University. He is devoted to education and in particular to teaching, and for many years has served as adjunct professor of political science at the University of New Mexico, where he has developed a nationally certified online course on American national government and politics. He received a BA in English from Santa Clara University, an MA in International Relations from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas and a PhD in Political Science from the University of New Orleans. His interests include travel, exercise, music from around the world and dogs.
