Gaurav Nagrath, ScD, MBA
A strategic and operational health system leader, Gaurav Nagrath has expertise in multi-payer value-based payment models and extensive interrelated dependencies. He leads significant transformation efforts across multiple states, impacting and advancing all-payer payment reform, population modeling, provider engagement, return on investment, health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), risk analysis and sustainability, data and IT strategy, information governance and related policies, and outcomes-based performance analytics. He has over 28 years of experience working within disparate healthcare environments, including integrated delivery systems, national payers, pharma, CMS and state Medicaid agencies, behavioral health, patient-centered medical homes, federally qualified health centers, managed long-term services and supports, and managed care organizations.
Before joining HMA, he held various principal roles with Cerner Corporation, a $28 billion multinational healthcare technology, population management, and payment consulting firm, where he spearheaded value-based care and risk solution efforts. He managed numerous transformation initiatives, including solutions and strategies to advance data-driven population health management, increase value-based payment contracting, and drive accountability within health systems. He has worked to implement knowledge-driven initiatives to improve clinical and operational efficiencies, including data-centric strategies to identify and manage person- and population-level risk empirically and sustainably.
In the post-Hurricane Katrina Greater New Orleans area, Dr. Nagrath led and oversaw an integral component of the complex and coordinated build of the primary care and behavioral health network - the infrastructure, EHR adoption, community-wide health care utilization, and clinical measurement, all of which aided the larger effort aligned with progressing the regional primary care medical home framework. A $100 million federal award, the Primary Care Access Stabilization Grant, enabled the work and paved the way for innovative, aligned, and sustained healthcare transformation across Greater New Orleans and Louisiana.
Dr. Nagrath previously served as the principal investigator and oversaw the progression of IT-enabled clinical and operational improvement aligned within the healthcare space and related policy initiatives for Beacon Communities, a HHS-funded initiative with a budget of $14 million. He spearheaded systems integration, governance strategy, management, business processes, data-sharing agreements, legal and regulatory framework, provider, payer, and patient collaboration for this multi-sector healthcare transformation project for the Greater New Orleans area.
Dr. Nagrath earned a Doctor of Science degree in Global Health Management and Policy from the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, a Master of Business Administration degree in International Business, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.
