Amanda Peters Britton, M.Ed., LPC, NCC is currently serving in the role of Children’s Mental Health Manager for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Before moving into the CMH Manager role in 2023, Amanda worked as a Community Mental Health Specialist for the Texas Juvenile Justice Department after working in community juvenile justice for seven years. Amanda served as a Co-Chairperson for the Texas Family Code Chapter 55 Workgroup for the 88th Texas Legislative Session whose work was reflected in Senate Bill 1585 (effective September 1, 2023). She has also given invited testimony in front of the Texas House Youth Health and Safety, Select Committee, on Community Juvenile Justice in Texas.
Before moving into the field of juvenile justice, Amanda was the Adolescent Program Director for a community private behavioral health hospital. She designed the program and piloted it as the first adolescent clinical program for the hospital’s parent corporation. Amanda also worked as a crisis counselor in two Permian Basin school districts, including a multi-year period labeled as a student “suicide contagion.” She has held a license in Texas as a Professional Counselor for over 20 years. Amanda is also a National Certified Counselor, a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and a Trust-Based Relational Intervention Practitioner.
Amanda’s professional areas of interest include: the power of connection and positive relationships in the lives of children and teens; trauma prevention, intervention, and treatment; integrating sensory interventions when working with children and teenagers; and the intersection between children’s mental health and other child serving systems.
Amanda is the proud mother of two amazing adult sons, Mitchell and Mason, and proud mother-in-law of Katherine (Mitchell’s spouse). She loves animals – especially Gwendolen (her small but mighty adopted kitten named after a legendary British queen).
