As an emergency department (ED) physician, Dr. Mashkuri has a special interest in low barrier access to care for people who use drugs. Providing rapid access to medications and facilitating linkage to community treatment pathways for ED patients with substance use disorders has been the focus of his efforts. He collaborates closely with embedded peer recovery specialists in the ED who support patients and help them navigate ongoing treatment and care. Dr. Mashkuri is the current Medical Lead of the Central Vermont Prevention Coalition (CVPC) and served as Medical Director of the Central Vermont Medical Center Emergency Department from 2016-2021. He is a graduate of the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine in Brooklyn, New York and completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at Oregon Health Science University in Portland, Oregon.
Dr. Mashkuri is the owner of Vermont Emergency Addiction Services, LLC. He consults on treatment pathway models for low barrier point of care addiction services in the Emergency Department including: health/SUD screening, induction of MAT, facilitated outpatient follow up and the use of embedded Peer Recovery Services.
