The C-CMHC program aimed at supporting and restoring the delivery of clinical services impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to effectively address mental health symptoms. During 2020, 27% of adults in Indiana reported anxiety/depressive symptoms. Nationally, 30% of mental health care providers have experienced increased caseloads since the start of the pandemic, but 30% of psychologists have not met the demand for treatment. At the onset of the pandemic, Indiana transitioned 63% of classes to distance learning and canceled 20% of classes, impacting the estimated 50% of children who receive at least some of their mental health services at school.

Learning Objectives:

Attendees will understand how the COVID-19 further deteriorated behavioral health care in rural southeastern Indiana, and how SAMHSA and Centerstone’s Research Institute implemented comprehensive (C-CMHC) to mitigate the challenges.
Attendees will understand how mixed-method evaluation approach including theory-driven design to evaluate Indiana’s comprehensive C-CMHC to determine whether the program achieved its intended short- and long-term outcomes.
The speakers will clarify how the program assists high-risk populations such as the LGBTQ+ community, the aged, and people in ethnic or racial minority groups.
