Although recognition of the mind/body connection has soared in recent years, financial implications of enhancing behavioral health on total cost of care have been less well understood. The findings of our recent study suggest receiving behavioral treatment in an outpatient setting, like individual therapy, is associated with reduced medical and pharmacy costs. This session will include sharing findings from a large, national cohort study of individuals newly diagnosed with behavioral health conditions which demonstrates that promoting and optimizing behavioral outpatient treatment may improve overall health as well as reduce cost to the health care system.
