Harm Reduction Manager MATTERS - UBMD Emergency Medicine Buffalo, New York
People who use drugs face significant barriers in accessing services. MATTERS is deploying 15 harm reduction vending machines across New York State. We are relying on community partners to manage the vending machines on the ground. We have partnered with substance use treatment organizations, mental health associations, peer organizations, health homes, county public health departments, and corrections facilities to host the vending machines. MATTERS will reimburse our partner organizations for all costs associated with the vending machine. Accessing the harm reduction supplies will be low barrier, simply requiring a participant’s year of birth.
Learning Objectives:
Identify why drug checking strips and low barrier naloxone access are effective harm reduction strategies
Establish community need and readiness in order to place vending machines in high impact areas
Implement a large-scale harm reduction vending machine program to address barriers to accessing supplies in vulnerable communities
