B15 - Zero Suicide Model Implementation Associated With Reductions in Suicide Attempt and Death Rates in Large Health Care Systems

As most individuals have contact with healthcare providers before suicide, health systems have become essential partners for suicide prevention efforts. Six large health systems serving over 10 million patients collaborated to design and implement specific care improvement activities in specialty mental health clinics. Research funded by the National Institute of Mental Health evaluated success implementing specific Zero Suicide care processes and impact on risk of self-harm or suicide attempt. This presentation will review the findings from the landmark study and discuss how population-level decreases in suicide attempt and suicide death rates were accomplished at intervention health systems after site-specific implementation.
