Suicide ripples out to effect more than the immediate family; extending to others connected to the deceased and the larger community beyond. Using structured and planned suicide postvention approaches, response and interventions after a death by suicide occurs, is an important strategy for continued suicide prevention and community healing. This session will explore both community planning approaches, as well as strategies from an organizational perspective, including learned lessons and considerations, for suicide postvention best practices.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define postvention, an intervention after a suicide.
  • Identify the components of a community planning approach to postvention.
  • Examine examples of promising organizational postvention approaches.
