Effective client engagement is vital in behavioral health care delivery. While this notion may seem obvious and intuitive, behavioral health organizations do not always value, equip, prioritize, and incentivize engagement as a foundational competency among their staff. The Engagement First Approach provides a framework and practical tools for organizations to re-center engagement as the most important competency in the delivery of services. . This session will explore the “Engagement first approach” and the rationale for prioritizing this first in protocols, training, vision and mission. Barriers and potential strategies for addressing them and the ROI on this approach will be explored.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop an understanding of why engagement is the most important priority for organizations and staff.
  • Identify two barriers to this most important thing: systems, organization and staff levels.
  • Craft one strategy to address one of these barriers.
  • Examine four benefits of an engagement first approach including potential return on investment.
