This session aims to explore the critical issue of behavioral health disparities within BIPOC communities and highlight the significant role that faith-based organizations (FBOs) can play in addressing these disparities. We will challenge underlying factors contributing to the low mental health utilization rate among BIPOC communities, with a focus on Social Determinants of Health (SDOH). Attendees will gain valuable insights into the importance of fostering cultural understanding, responsiveness, and healing from trauma within faith communities. We will introduce a comprehensive training model that empowers FBOs to establish strategic partnerships with local organizations to create robust mental health linkages and resources.

  • Explain why adapting existing evidence-based practices, training materials, curriculums, and practices to make them more appropriate for FBOs serving BIPOC communities is integral to addressing behavioral health disparities.
