A14 - A Patient- and Family-centered Approach to Pediatric Gender-affirming Care

Gender diverse children and adolescents need compassionate support and affirmation to lead happy, healthy lives. Community health centers can be an ideal match for the needs of this population by providing medical treatment, behavioral health support and specialized services like patient navigation and case management. With the experience of building a pediatric gender-affirming practice at a federally qualified health center (FQHC) over the last decade, presenters will review emerging landscapes of gender diversity, gender identity development in early life, gender-affirming medical options for youth and special considerations for working with parents and caregivers of gender diverse youth.
