The opioid crisis continues to have a devastating impact on families and communities across the United States. Individuals from marginalized communities, including Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) communities and individuals who are uninsured or have lower incomes, with opioid use disorders often experience challenges accessing and sustaining treatment services. This presentation will explore strategies for organizations to assess and effectively address opioid use among BIPOC individuals.

Learning Objectives:

Examine how social determinants of health may impact initiation of and ongoing substance use.
Discuss factors that facilitate and hinder engagement in long-term treatment and recovery for BIPOC individuals.
Identify strategies for organizations to assess and address opioid use among BIPOC individuals through addressing social determinants of health.
