MHFA16 - Measuring Impact, Building Community: Leveraging Insights From a National Evaluation and a Campus-wide Implementation and Evaluation of MHFA

This session will review findings from a national internal mixed-methods program evaluation of Adult and Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), and then spotlight the ongoing implementation process and evaluation of Adult MHFA at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Best practices, lessons learned and recommendations for implementing and expanding a MHFA program at a large-scale university from the ground up will be shared. Speakers will discuss data collection and utilization to create targeted goals and strategies for community-building, recruitment, marketing and program improvement. These insights can inform MHFA partners in capacity and community-building endeavors aiming to expand and improve MHFA-related outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss at least three critical considerations involved in the process of MHFA program evaluation at an institutional level.
  • Analyze how both qualitative and quantitative data can be utilized to improve MHFA program implementation and evaluation.
  • Identify at least three specific recruitment and marketing strategies that Instructors and/or organizations can utilize to increase MHFA expansion efforts.
  • Attendees will be able to verbalize at least three key themes from the results from each of the Adult MHFA and Youth MHFA course program evaluations.
